Every summer, Sitka becomes the musical hub of Alaska as musicians, students and enthusiasts flock in to enjoy virtuosic concerts and masterclasses. This year, jazz will be at the forefront August 24-31 during the third annual Sitka Jazz Week.
The festival was founded by professional jazz musician and songwriter Christian Fabian, who envisioned it as an opportunity to celebrate jazz with people currently involved and those who wish to be.
The festival consists of live performances, classes and a gala benefit concert. Collaborators include Christian Fabian, Bernard Purdie, Matt King, Heather Gluth, Cleave Guyton Jr., John Damberg of the Alaska Jazz Workshop, The Gateway Trio, Mt. Edgecumbe High School and Anne Phillips.
Registration is open to musicians of all ages and all skill levels. Tuition is $750 for the week, including all instruction, breakfasts and lunches. Lodging is paid for by the participant. Visit sitkajazzweek.org for more information or contact (646) 522-4120.
